Last month we introduced you to some of the new varieties making their way to Lakeview, including Pugster Pico Punch® Butterfly Bush. Well, we have another new Pugster to add to the lineup!
Meet Pugster Sorbet® Butterfly Bush, a new Proven Winners introduction with large flower spikes that start creamy white and transition to soft shades of purple. The result is a mix of colors on the same compact plant throughout its bloom season.
Pugster Sorbet stays just 2–3 feet tall and wide and blooms from summer into fall. Like the rest of the Pugster family, it gives you those big butterfly bush blooms on a much smaller, rounded plant. And, of course, those flowers are a favorite stop for butterflies and bees.
One little Garden Geek reminder about Pugsters and butterfly bushes in general here in Massachusetts: they like to sleep in!
Butterfly bushes are notoriously late to wake up in the spring. While everything else in the garden may be leafing out, yours might still look like a bunch of sticks. We’ve seen them wait until the end of May or even early June to really get moving, so don’t give up on them too quickly. Wait for those little green buds to appear before deciding what needs to be pruned. Proven Winners also recommends waiting until new growth emerges before spring pruning.
Pugster Sorbet® is another new introduction we’re excited to add to the Lakeview lineup!
