Let’s Put a Plant in Every Classroom… What a Turnout!

At the end of August, the Garden Geeks kicked off one of our favorite promotions with a mission to put a plant in every local classroom. And wow, did our local teachers show up!

We wrapped up this year’s Classroom Plant Giveaway on September 5th after our biggest turnout ever. We sent more classroom plants out into our community than we ever have before, and we couldn’t be happier about it.

We’ve done this promotion before, but this year’s response absolutely blew us away. Seeing so many teachers stop by Lakeview to choose a leafy companion for their classroom was exactly why we love doing this.

Why Classroom Plants?

This one has always been a little personal for us. Alec and I both grew up in Lunenburg and attended schools where plants, gardening and the greenhouse program were part of the experience. I also grew up in our family farming business, so being surrounded by plants seemed completely normal. It wasn’t until later that I realized how special it was to have that connection to plants at school.

There’s just something about adding a little green to a classroom. A plant on a windowsill, bookshelf or teacher’s desk makes a room feel warmer and more welcoming. It also gives students something living to observe and care for and creates an easy connection to conversations about plants, growth and the natural world.

Plants That Can Handle Classroom Life

We chose plants with classrooms in mind, focusing on adaptable varieties that can handle less-than-perfect lighting, dry indoor air, changing temperatures and the occasional forgotten watering. Because when 25 people are responsible for watering the plant, somehow nobody is responsible for watering the plant.

Snake Plants, Chinese Evergreens and Pothos were some of our favorites because they’re tough, adaptable and don’t need a lot of fuss to look great.

Thank You, Teachers!

Our 2026 Classroom Plant Giveaway may have wrapped up on September 5th, but those plants are just getting started. They’re now heading into classrooms throughout our community, hopefully adding a little green, sparking a little curiosity and maybe even inspiring a future Garden Geek or two.

To every teacher who stopped in and participated this year, thank you! We loved meeting you, hearing about your classrooms and seeing the incredible response to this program.

And most importantly, thank you for everything you do for our local students. We’re pretty proud to know that a little piece of Lakeview will be growing alongside them this school year.

Here’s to curious minds, wonderful teachers and a whole lot more green!
